Yosemite Recovery Update 1.0 causing problems in 10.10.3

Deja vu is happening with the release of a Yosemite Recovery Update 1.0 associated with 10.10.3. With the release of 10.10.3 the Active Directory issue was resolved, but now a new problem has been discovered.  After running the Yosemite Recovery Update 1.0, machines with Filevault and Firmware passwords enabled are randomly getting question marks at boot. Apple outlines this issue in a recently released support article.

To reproduce the issue

To reproduce the issue a machine must have the following:

  1. 10.10.3
  2. Filevault enabled
  3. Firmware password enabled
  4. Yosemite Recover Update 1.0

The Ugly

Apple’s fix assumes that you want to provide firmware passwords to your end user, or else you must touch each machine with the issue physically. It’s never fun to have to manually touch a machine for any problem….ain’t nobody got time for that. I encourage you to stay up with https://jamfnation.jamfsoftware.com/discussion.html?id=14019 for any temporary workarounds. We will post a fix as soon as we have one.
