Gmail incorrect user and password using Mail on iPhone/iPad

Unable to setup Mail on iOS device

I ran into this the other day with my own gmail account with two-step verification enabled. When trying to setup mail, Mail would refuse my password that I knew was correct. I found out that I need to create an App specific password as described in the following link:

https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en

Once my app password was generated by the above link, I simply copied and pasted the generated password into the password field in the Mail setup screen. You do not need to remember the password generated above. If you need to setup again on your device, just repeat the process and a new password will be generated.
